AEW's Blackpool Combat Club almost had another fourth member, confirms former champion: "I was supposed to be with Bryan"

AEW's Blackpool Combat Club is one of the promotion's most dominating factions to date. However, an All Elite star recently revealed that the original lineup was meant to be much different.

Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley initially formed the BCC alongside William Regal. Not too long after, rising AEW star Wheeler Yuta was added, and eventually Claudio Castagnoli. However, Daniel Garcia notably had an angle with the faction, and now revealed that the storyline would've gone in a very different direction.

During a recent appearance on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Garcia opened up about the initial plans for him to be in the Blackpool Combat Club:

"In the moment, I was very sad about the situation. I was originally supposed to be put with Bryan in the original Blackpool Combat Club, when it first initiated. Jericho needed me for his group, I got taken out of that, put with Jericho."
"In my mind, I knew I was supposed to be with Bryan in a couple of weeks. This is sad. Once I started...Okay, this Bryan thing could be happening in a bigger way where I already got over a little bit, and now it could be a big payoff or storyline that I'll be put with Bryan," Garcia added. However, in hindsight, Garcia believes that the timing was not right at the time. The star recently explained his drastic character change and attributed it to feeling complacent after Jericho Appreciation Society.

Daniel Garcia holds AEW American Dragon in high regard

Bryan Danielson has been the subject of praise from many of his peers. His run in All Elite Wrestling has allowed him to clash with many stars like Garcia, who he made an impression on.

During the same podcast appearance, the star praised Danielson:

"You know the whole crowd chanting my name after, chanting 'you’re a wrestler' which was really cool. Wrestling Bryan meant the world to me. I learned so much from him as not just a wrestler, but as a human. Bryan is one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life 100%." [From 39:07-39:31]

It remains to be seen if the AEW star might still return to the Blackpool Combat Club, especially after many are unhappy with his current persona. Only time will tell, but many believe Daniel Garcia will fit right in with the BCC.
