AEW's Jim Ross surprised by non-WWE star appearing in NXT: "I hope he takes advantage of it"

A non-WWE star recently made an appearance in NXT and AEW commentator Jim Ross was surprised to see him on the show. The star being discussed here is Joe Hendry.

The TNA star made his WWE debut on this week's episode of NXT. He was a surprise entrant in the Battle Royal which took place to determine the number one contender for Trick Williams' NXT Championship.

On the latest episode of Grilling JR, Ross' co-host Conrad Thompson asked the veteran what he thinks of Joe Hendry's debut in NXT. The former WWE commentator said:

"It is surprising. Pleasantly so. I think getting more guys involved and getting more TV time for multiple people is good. I recall some of Joe Hendry's matches back in the day. He's a good talent and it's good that he's got a very solid job because he's got the potential to do really well." [From 01:22 to 01:45]

JR added that he hopes the 36-year-old wrestler capitalizes on his big break in WWE.

"[NXT] was good. Joe Henry is a good talent. They've done a nice job there. The NXT people talent-wise, they got a good eye for talent... I think Joe's got a break there. He got a big break. So I hope he takes advantage of it." [From 02:15 to 03:28]

Joe Hendry threw a tantrum backstage at WWE NXT

As mentioned earlier, Hendry participated in the Battle Royal in NXT this week. But he was soon eliminated from the match. This didn't sit well with the TNA star and he threw a major tantrum backstage at NXT.

He even bumped into Shawn Michales at Gorilla. He took out some of his frustrations on The Heartbreak Kid and whined about his loss. He then warned the NXT creative head that he could show up anywhere, anytime on any show.

This might be a hint that the fans may get to see the Scottish star again in the Stamford-based promotion soon.
