AEW's safety standards have been "ridiculous" judging by recent bloody match, says Vince Russo (Exclusive)
Although Tony Khan has repeatedly assured fans that AEW follows strict safety procedures, it is clear that recent spots and segments have been pushing the envelope boldly. According to Vince Russo, the safety measures have not been enforced well enough.
The latest All Out had several standout moments, but the match between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page truly made its mark on fans and critics alike. At one point, Swerve had a syringe in his mouth, after which Page gave him a chair shot directly to the head.
While some have speculated that the chair was 'gimmicked' to avoid injury, Vince Russo thinks the explanation is unlikely. Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, the WWE veteran stated:
"There is a chair shot to the head of Strickland, where he literally had his arms down and gave his head. And they are saying that they gimmicked the chair. Okay bro, in order for the gimmick chair to work you still gotta hit him over the head with it. You have got to make contact with his head for the gimmick chair to break. You are still hitting him over the head bro." [7:50 onwards]
The WWE veteran recalled his own experience in taking bumps from an AEW star
Vince Russo is no stranger to taking hits on screen, with one instance being taking a guitar shot from Jeff Jarrett.
The WWE veteran recalled how a guitar had been specially prepared for the spot, but he still ended up being dazed from the hit by the current AEW star. He stated:
"I got Jeff's guitar shot one freaking time. Hurts? Chris I saw stars. I saw stars. Balsa freaking wood, with the guitar separated and glued back together. So a gimmick chair isn't gonna hurt? A steel chair? Bro it's ridiculous." [9:49 onwards]
As of now, only time will tell how AEW plans to handle such situations down the line.
