AEW's Tony Khan's attempt to emulate ECW faces backlash
AEW president Tony Khan has been on the receiving end of some harsh criticism from a WWE legend as he has been accused of ripping off ECW. The legend was not very pleased.
AEW recently used the song November Rain by Guns N’ Roses to promote their upcoming event Full Gear event which will be taking place over the weekend. In doing that, they also used the moniker November to Remember, which also happens to be the name of an ECW event.
ECW original Bully Ray has now voiced his opinion on the stunt and said how Tony Khan could have done it differently. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, the WWE Hall of Famer said AEW tried to replicate NXT's recent tribute show to ECW.
"All you gotta do is have Tony in a pre-tape beforehand tell that little story, 'Growing up I was a massive ECW fan. This is what I love the most. I've always wanted to do something with it on my own, and ladies and gentlemen, here's my vision on something that has been done already. Blah, blah, blah, the world premiere of AEW's November to Remember and 'November Rain. 'NXT' leaned on ECW with The ECW Arena show and a couple of ECW returning Hall of Famers, AEW saw the success of it, tried to do their own version of it." [H/T Wrestling Inc]
Vince Russo lashes out at AEW president Tony Khan
Vince Russo is someone who is known to mince his words. The former WWE head writer recently opined on Tony Khan's comments regarding Darby Allin.
The former WCW name spoke exclusively on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Writing With Russo when he pointed out Khan’s absurdity over the comments he made regarding Darby Allin.
"I don't think he ever cared about the business side, man. I think he was going to get to own a wrestling company and write for a wrestling company, and I think that's all that mattered. He actually does believe the product they put out is good. I was reading a quote from him today, 'Darby Allin's the greatest wrestler on the planet!' He believes that [...] he truly, honestly, believes that."
It will be interesting to see what Tony Khan will have to say about this.
