AEW star drops major Cody Rhodes reference after the Undisputed WWE Champion's inflammatory comments

A current AEW star has seemingly referenced current Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a major way. The talent reacted to one of his matches from a few years ago.

The AEW star in question is Matt Sydal (fka Evan Bourne). He is best known for his time in WWE, where he worked from 2008 to 2014. The 41-year-old has also honed his skills on the independent circuit. Sydal is currently signed with the Tony Khan-led promotion, where he has been performing since 2020.

Cody Rhodes recently spoke about some legends returning to the business claiming their main motive was to help younger talents. The American Nightmare said it was the biggest red flag for him since long-time veterans who made such claims were seemingly looking to advance in their careers instead of assisting up-and-coming performers.

Rhodes' comments drew varied reactions from fans and professionals. It was a controversial take since pro wrestling companies often feature legends and veterans on their programming.

On X/Twitter, a fan shared a few clips from Matt Sydal's match against Dante Martin. The former WWE star faced Martin three years ago on an episode of Dynamite. In response to the post, Sydal referenced Rhodes' comments about certain legends as he wrote:

"Iā€™m here to help the young guys. šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘"

Cody Rhodes will battle The Bloodline at Money in the Bank 2024

Cody Rhodes has been feuding with the new Bloodline since Clash at the Castle 2024. Last week on SmackDown, the faction introduced a new member, Jacob Fatu. Upon his arrival, The Samoan Werewolf attacked Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens.

The American Nightmare is now set to team up with Owens and Orton for a six-man tag team match against The Bloodline at Money in the Bank 2024. It has yet to be confirmed which three competitors will represent The Bloodline in the contest.

Solo Sikoa has had his sights set on Rhodes for quite some time. Will he pursue the Undisputed WWE Championship following Money in the Bank? Fans must stay tuned to find out.
