AEW star Paul Wight (fka The Big Show) opens up on retirement plans

Paul Wight (fka The Big Show) has been in the pro wrestling business since 1994. He recently commented on his retirement plans.

The former WWE star has been on the sidelines for months. His last match on AEW TV came on the November 15, 2023, edition of Dynamite, where he participated in the Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight. The last time fans saw him compete inside the squared circle was at Jericho Cruise 2024.

Wight is away from in-ring action due to injury issues. A few months ago, he disclosed that he had knee and hip replacement. The former WWE Champion also revealed that he had started training to get back inside the squared circle.

The former Big Show recently had an interview with Fightful, where he spoke about having a last run in AEW before he hung up his wrestling boots. Wight said he wanted to retire like Sting did earlier this year at Revolution.

“I kind of want to go out like Sting did, have a nice little run, have some great matches, work with some of this amazing young talent we have in AEW, and then slide out. That goal accomplished and then I’ll move to New York and become a world-famous playwright. That’s a joke because I can’t spell.” [H/T: Ringside News]

Paul Wight reveals Sting saved him from being ribbed by Hulk Hogan

In the same interview, Paul Wight also talked about how The Icon once saved him from being ribbed by Hulk Hogan. The former WWE Champion said that after he won his first match against Hogan at WCW Halloween Havoc, the latter played a prank on him.

The Hulkster asked a young Paul Wight to wear his newly won title to the airport, knowing very well that fans would make fun of him. Fortunately, Sting warned Wight before he made a fool of himself and saved him from being embarrassed in front of fans at the airport.
