AEW star pays tribute to Brodie Lee at major event

A prominent AEW star who has been associated with the company since its nascent stages of growth, Evil Uno, recently accompanied his stable-mates for their match at ROH: Final Battle 2024. The Canadian star also channeled his dear departed colleague and ally, Brodie Lee, in a bid to his to help his friends capture the victory.

During the Zero Hour pre-show to this year's edition of Ring of Honor: Final Battle, Grizzled Young Veterans took on Alex Reynolds and John Silver of The Dark Order. The highly competitive match culminated in James Drake and Zack Gibson picking up the win despite the best efforts of the former Beaver Boys.

At one point during the bout, GYV intercepted Evil Uno's attempt to cause a distraction with a bunch of papers by snatching them from his hand and ripping them apart. But the masked AEW star was ready with another thick stack of papers as backup, which he lobbed at Drake's head when the referee's back was turned. The momentary interference, however, ultimately could not prevent the former WWE Superstars from walking away victorious.

Uno's tactic, of course, was a reference to a running gag performed by his former stable-mate and leader, the late Brodie Lee, on Being The Elite back in the day. The Dark Order continues to carry on The Exalted One's legacy in AEW since his tragic passing in 2020.

GYV arrived in the Tony Khan-led company earlier this year.

What AEW's GYV and The Dark Order have been up to?

James Drake and Zack Gibson wrestled their first All Elite Wrestling bout against The Acclaimed in a losing effort on Collision in April. After months of speculation surrounding the possibility of a signing, the duo appeared at All In 2024 to attack FTR after the latter failed to dethrone AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks in a Triple Threat tag match also involving Anthony Bowens and Max Caster.

Since then, Grizzled Young Veterans have wrestled teams like FTR and The Outrunners in the Jacksonville-based company, although the duo have been performing more often in ROH and NJPW as of late.

The Dark Order have also been featured on ROH programming recently, besides competing in dark matches on Dynamite and Collision and more frequently on Rampage. They also unsuccessfully challenged The Death Riders for the AEW World Trios Titles on Battle of The Belts XII in October.
