AEW star reacts to rumors of CM Punk ruining his "relationship" with Tony Khan
Although CM Punk left AEW over a year ago, there are still discussions and rumors floating about his time in the Jacksonville-based company. A popular All Elite star just denied one of those rumors.
QT Marshall first started working for AEW in 2019. He was initially featured on Dynamite and then got moved to Collision where he was a regular feature. However, he stopped appearing on the show after his storyline with Powerhouse Hobbs ended.
Earlier this year, QT Marshall stated that it was CM Punk's idea to take him off Collision since he didn't want to be Hobbs' manager. Since then, rumors have been circulating that this has negatively affected Marshall's relationship with Tony Khan.
During a recent appearance on the Gabby AF podcast, Marshall debunked the rumors of any issues between himself and Punk. He also noted that The Second City Saint hadn't negatively affected his relationship with Tony Khan either.
“One, there was a huge misconception that him and I didn’t get along, that he put a wedge between Tony and I. I don’t think that was the case because we actually spoke in Newark at the Prudential Center and when I first heard about the fact that there was an issue, I went right to the source and I spoke to him like a man and he listened to me like a man. We had another person in there, just in case, just so we could talk because I always felt like it’s easier just to do that. We both realized like, oh, he doesn’t want me with Will Hobbs because he saw more for Will, and I didn’t want to be with Will as his manager because I didn’t want to be a manager. That was the end of it, right?" he stated.
Marshall continued to say he first heard the rumor of Punk ruining his relationship with Tony Khan after The Best in the World had left AEW. He said that it couldn't be further from the truth.
"Then of course, like a month later, he was kind of gone anyway, so there was that. Then, fast forward, he returns to WWE and I get a text from Cody saying — and this is like after I had left AEW so the rumor was that I left AEW because I wanted to be a big star and CM Punk ruined my relationship with Tony Khan, couldn’t be further from the truth, both sides," he said. Former AEW star Mark Henry on his alleged backstage issues with QT Marshall
Mark Henry worked with AEW from 2021 to 2024 in various roles such as commentator, coach, and analyst. However, he opted not to renew his contract and departed the company earlier this year.
During a recent appearance on the HUGE POP! podcast, Henry revealed that he heard from a reliable source that QT Marshall called him stupid but he never confronted the AEW executive as he believes it was said in jest.
"I love Sonjay [Dutt], Pat Buck, Q.T. [Marshall] - I heard from a reliable source that Q.T. called me stupid, and guess what? I looked him in the face every day and smiled and said, ‘What’s going on man? How you doing?’ You know how I can do that? Because one, I know it’s not true, and two, if he said it, he probably said it in jest. Mark Henry’s probably stupid, for coming over here and taking a mitigated role. I’m sure that there was some extra before or some extra afterwards," he said/ [H/T - Inside the Ropes]
It will be interesting to see if Mark Henry will make his return back to WWE in the future, and also what the future holds for Q.T. Marshall in All Elite Wrestling.
