AEW star reveals he spoke to Cody Rhodes after WWE made a blockbuster announcement - "I'm probably not going to be a part of this thing"
WWE recently made a massive announcement regarding Cody Rhodes. A former AEW star just revealed the conversation he had with the American Nightmare after this announcement.
QT Marshall and Cody Rhodes worked closely together during their time in AEW. They were even part of the same faction before QT turned heel. However, behind the scenes, both men were still pretty close.
Recently, WWE announced its new WWE ID program to provide aid to wrestling schools and independent wrestlers. Cody Rhodes' Nightmare Factory was among the first schools to get the WWE ID designation. This raised a lot of eyebrows since the Nightmare Factory is run by both Cody and QT Marshall, who is still under contract with AEW.
During a recent interview on The Takedown on SI, QT Marshall said that he spoke to the American Nightmare after the announcement and told him that he was probably not going to be a part of this due to the conflict of interest that would arise since he is an AEW employee. Cody also agreed with QT even though he wasn't happy about it.
"But I know when I spoke to Cody like, ‘Hey, you're going to be doing your own thing. Maybe I could run a night class in there if we lose the building here, if we sell the building and stuff. But obviously, with AEW and the conflict of interest, I'm probably not going to be a part of this thing. He's like, ‘Yeah, of course, that makes perfect sense, stinks because you are 50 percent of the Nightmare Factory. More than 50 percent because of the coaching that you bring. But at the end of the day, of course, if it's going to make any kind of difficulty at work, you know, and that's the biggest thing’. [H/T Sports Illustrated]
QT Marshall revealed he spoke to WWE before returning to AEW
When QT Marshall left AEW last year, the biggest talk of the town was that he was headed to WWE. Many believed that this made the most sense, with Cody Rhodes being part of the company. However, that didn't happen, and he returned to the Jacksonville-based promotion a few months later.
In the same interview, QT Marshall said that he spoke to WWE before making his return to Tony Khan's promotion, but the conversation rubbed him the wrong way. Additionally, this conversation happened after he had spoken to Tony, and hence, his mind was pretty much decided.
"I had one conversation with somebody that doesn't even work there anymore. I just got rubbed the wrong way during the conversation. It was like, ‘Hey, yeah, oh yeah, that's great. All right. I told him, like, yeah, all right, we'll stay in touch’. To me, it was like I'm not staying in touch. I had all that time between November and January, so that on January 1 when that conversation did arise or January 2, whenever it was. It was like I kind of knew plus I had already spoken to Tony before that, so I kind of knew. I think I was just looking for a reason to say no," Marshall said. [H/T Fightful]
It will be interesting to see what QT Marshall's role in the Nightmare Factory will be moving forward.
