AEW star says CM Punk had "trust issues" with several people in the company - "Him and I were never friends"

CM Punk wrestled over 30 AEW matches during his two years with the company. The current WWE Superstar competed against names like Darby Allin, Samoa Joe, Adam Page, MJF, Max Caster, and Daniel Garcia, among others. A veteran talent and executive just revealed the scoop behind his one match with Punk and how the Chicagoan had trust issues backstage.

The Voice of the Voiceless made his shocking AEW debut in his hometown of Chicago and returned to the company's top market for several shows after that. Punk recently made viral comments on his matches for Tony Khan's company. The Thanksgiving Eve 2021 Dynamite was held at The Windy City's Wintrust Arena, featuring the first Punk vs. QT Marshall match as the opener. After the referee ejected The Factory, Punk defeated Marshall in 11 minutes with the GTS.

The self-proclaimed God's Gift to Professional Wrestling has revealed why he was chosen as Punk's hometown victim that night. Speaking to MetroUK, AEW's Vice President of Show & Creative Coordination described the match as "good business" for everyone involved. Marshall recalled how they didn't talk much before the outing.

"He just wanted to work a bad guy in his hometown. We really didn’t communicate too much before the match, and we just went out there, and we just had a good old wrestling match," QT Marshall said.

Marshall insisted he had a "decent relationship" with Punk while in AEW together, and he holds no ill will towards the former WWE Champion at all. The 39-year-old pointed to how he has earned the trust of his co-workers, adding that they know he will deliver and work safely in the ring. QT then revealed how Punk probably came into the company with lots of trust issues.

"I think coming into this company, and I think it showed with how he left the company as well, he probably had a lot of trust issues with a lot of people. Him and I were never friends, but at the same time, I knew what my goal was and what his goal was for that night, and I just had a great time with it," QT Marshall said.

Marshall takes pride in being trusted to go out on live TV and work with top talents. He recalled being confident against Punk, noting that Punk hasn't really changed his in-ring style, and that helped a lot as Marshall has watched his matches for years. AEW put Marshall in a similar role with Paul Wight (fka Big Show) at All Out 2021, and he helped train Shaq, Anthony Ogogo, and others.

QT Marshall set for big AEW Rampage segment

QT Marshall and "Big Boom!" AJ of The Costco Guys are gearing up for their big match on the AEW Full Gear Zero Hour pre-show. The 90-minute special will air at 6:30 pm ET on all social platforms, hosted by Renee Paquette, Jeff Jarrett, and RJ City, with special guest Paul Walter Hauser.

QT and AJ will be on tonight's AEW Rampage episode for the official weigh-in to their Full Gear match. This will be the final build for the match between the former indie wrestler turned TikTok creator and AEW's Vice President of Show & Creative Coordination.

Tonight's Rampage was taped earlier in the week at the Santander Arena in Reading, PA, and is the final episode before Full Gear. Officials have also announced the following for the 172nd Rampage: Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa vs. Harley Cameron and Nyla Rose, Juice Robinson vs. The Butcher, plus trios action with The Conglomeration vs. The Dark Order.
