AEW star sends a heartfelt message after major milestone in Tony Khan's company

A top AEW star recently broke her silence after achieving a major feat. The star being discussed is Athena. She recently broke a massive record that no one had touched for almost 20 years - Being the longest-reigning ROH Champion. Samoa Joe was the previous record holder when he held the promotion's world title for 645 days almost two decades ago.

Athena made her AEW debut in May 2022. After performing in several matches in the Jacksonville-based promotion, she was moved to ROH, another Tony Khan-owned promotion. She became the ROH Women's World Champion after defeating Mercedes Martinez at the 2022 Final Battle Pay-Per-View.

Since then, the 36-year-old star has kept a tight hold on the championship. Through the years, she defeated almost every woman on the roster. Last week, she surpassed AEW star Samoa Joe's record as the longest-reigning ROH Champion as she has held the Women's World Championship for 648 days and counting.

After The War Goddess' huge achievement, she acknowledged everyone's contributions and thanked everyone for their support in a social media post.

.@ringofhonor, I have tried to write this a billion times and figure out the right words to say and I still dont think I know what to say... But it boils down to this - I am thankful for my minions that have supported me. I am thankful for all the trolls that give me the motivation to prove them wrong. I am thankful to every hussy I have beaten along the way to show everyone that I am the THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!! With love and anger, Athena. #ForeverROHChamp #LongestReigningROHChamp #MinionOverlord #TheInspiration #FallenGoddess," she wrote.

Athena responds to AEW star Mercedes Mone's challenge

Mercedes Mone recently called out the current ROH Women's World Champion and expressed her desire to face the latter.

Athena then took to X/Twitter and asked her followers about the potential challenge, seemingly teasing a huge dream match. Mercedes already holds two titles and looks to be on the hunt for the third one.

"Hmmmm..... What do yall think???" she wrote.

It remains to be seen how much longer she can hold the ROH Women's World Championship.
