AEW star shuts down rumors that contributed to leaving WWE
An AEW star recently made a shocking revelation regarding something that many believed was part of his WWE exit in 2021. The star being discussed here is Adam Cole.
The 35-year-old star made his debut in the Jacksonville-based promotion in September 2021. He has been presented as a huge star in AEW but missed quite some time in the company due to multiple injuries. He returned from a year-long absence at the WrestleDream Pay-Per-View.
The Panama City Playboy was one of the top NXT stars in the promotion during his time in WWE and was the leader of the Undisputed Era. After flourishing on the developmental brand, plans were discussed for Adam Cole to be bought on the main roster. A report claimed that the former Chairman of WWE Vince McMahon wanted the former NXT Champion to become Keith Lee's manager on either RAW or SmackDown.
Many believed this could have been a huge reason for Adam Cole's eventual WWE departure. However, while speaking with Stick to Wrestling, the 2022 Owen Hart Cup winner claimed that he wasn't specifically told about the creative pitch, although he had heard of the ongoing discussions at that time.
"No one ever personally told me, ‘Hey, we want to bring you to RAW or SmackDown to be a manager.' I’m not saying that was never discussed amongst people without my knowledge. I certainly think it’s possible, but as far as them bringing me into a room and saying, ‘We want to keep you, but we want to use you as a manager,’ I never had that discussion," he said. Adam Cole states he wants to end his career in AEW
The Panama City Playboy has been a huge part of the AEW roster since 2021. However, he hasn't been able to deliver his best in the past year due to injuries. Despite the injuries, he is confident following his recent return.
While speaking with Stick to Wrestling, Adam Cole claimed that he has no plans of leaving the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"Of course, as we say in pro wrestling, never say never, you never know what's going to happen, but I love AEW with all of my heart. I love our crew. I love our boss. I love our fans. I absolutely love it here and have no real plans of leaving," he said.
It remains to be seen if Adam Cole will return to WWE in the future.
