AEW talent makes huge botch; slips up about WWE on live television
A popular AEW star just made a major botch on Dynamite tonight, accidentally referencing WWE during their quick promo. This left the crowd in dismay and they made it known throughout the entire segment. This was none other than Swerve Strickland.
The former AEW World Champion has always been a fan favorite despite being more of a heel so far in the Jacksonville-based company. His popularity has skyrocketed over the past year and was at an all-time high during his world title run.
Tonight, after the win against Lio Rush, he grabbed a mic and called out The Hurt Syndicate. He intended to say that the crowd of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was looking for a fight like him and that they should give it to them, but accidentally blurted out Stamford instead.
This was another city in Connecticut, so the local fans did not like this. It is also a known fact that WWE's Headquarters is located in Stamford, and Swerve may have inadvertently blurted this out. The group then began chanting "This is Bridgeport" as the segment went on.
Moments later, Swerve Strickland was jumped by The Hurt Syndicate and was choked out by Bobby Lashley. As all of this was happening, the fans kept chanting "Bridgeport."
