AEW urged to sign former WWE Superstar if CM Punk doesn't return at Collision - Reports
AEW and CM Punk seem to have reached yet another stalemate if recent reports are to be believed, but some believe that the promotion should instead bring in Mercedes Moné. In light of the speculation, Dave Meltzer recently explained the likelihood of this move.
Reports have alleged that relations between CM Punk and AEW have yet again soured after weeks of rumors that he'll be returning. While Mercedes could headline Collision's debut show, she, unfortunately, suffered a broken ankle this weekend, which could set her back for a few months.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, some have suggested that the promotion instead bring Mercedes in if CM Punk isn't an option.
"A lot of people suggested this too, if Punk’s not coming, sign Mercedes. If she’s got a broken ankle – not that that’s catastrophic or long term, but she said, we’ll take her word for this, but she’s a free agent and can go anywhere. So, if that’s the case, then she’s not constricted contractually like in her release with WWE. She’s not contractually not allowed to go to AEW." [19:54 onward]
It's currently unclear for how long her broken ankle will put her out of action for. This could delay any notions of an All Elite Wrestling debut anytime soon.

Mercedes Moné made a reference to CM Punk before her match this weekend against an AEW star
While her match against Willow Nightingale ended in a sudden injury, the two likely still have unfinished business. Nightingale shockingly dethroned the star and walked away with the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship, meaning the two will likely clash sometime soon.
During a promo before her match took place, Mercedes used CM Punk's "Go to sleep" catchphrase in what could only be a reference to the star himself.
"I'm about to get you a pillow tonight, Willow, 'cause I'm about to make you GO TO SLEEP."
Across her brief feud with Willow Nightingale, Mercedes has made quite a few known CM Punk references and even used his "it's clobbering time" taunt on social media. The former WWE Superstar wasn't known for emulating CM Punk, which has left many wondering if she's already hinting at a collaboration or debut of some kind.
