After a 430+ day absence, Mercedes Moné will finally return to a massive promotion outside AEW
Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks) currently holds the AEW TBS Championship and the Strong Women's Title. Fans worldwide consider her one of the best in the modern era, as she has performed in several promotions across the world. She is now set to return to a massive company.
Moné was signed to WWE from 2012 to 2022. After leaving the Stamford-based company, she debuted in NJPW. The CEO's time in the Japanese promotion was bittersweet because she suffered an ankle injury in a match to crown the first-ever Strong Women's Champion against Willow Nightingale on May 21, 2023.
This was the last time the 32-year-old performed in NJPW. Interestingly, the promotion's X/Twitter page recently announced that Mercedes Moné will appear at the upcoming Capital Collision event that is scheduled to take place on August 30, 2024, in Washington, D.C.
Moné's opponent for the abovementioned event hasn't been announced yet. It may be disclosed in the coming weeks.
Mercedes Moné recently allied with Kamille
On Dynamite: Blood & Guts, Britt Baker beat Hikaru Shida in a singles match. She was later attacked by former NWA World Women's Champion, Kamille. After the brutal beatdown, the debuting 31-year-old raised Moné's arm in the ring, confirming their alliance.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray believes that Kamille is an asset for AEW and she can become its version of the late-great Chyna.
"Heavy. Protector. A Chyna-esque presence. She slides in through the backdoor, Kamille Brickhouse. Great to see her and high hopes for her. You saw what she did in the NWA. She brought credibility to that Women's Championship. I want to see Kamille getting established first in the same way Chyna was established back in the day," Ray said.
Mercedes Moné will face Britt Baker for the TBS Championship at All In 2024. It remains to be seen which star will reign supreme in London, England.
