AJ Styles issues a statement after former champion used his finishing move on AEW TV
AJ Styles recently addressed a former AEW champion using his move on the latest edition of Dynamite during his match. The star who used the move is Will Ospreay.
The Phenomenal One has wrestled in every major promotion in his career. He has also held championships in NJPW, TNA, and WWE. He has been using Styles Clash move for many years now. He made the finisher very popular, so much so that fans cannot stop thinking of him when someone does it.
Will Ospreay is known for keeping different moves in his arsenal. He often uses Styles Clash during high-caliber and pay-per-view matches in AEW. He recently lost the International Championship to MJF of Dynamite 250 episode. The match went on for about an hour when both stars left everything they had in the tank.
The Aerial Assassin used Styles Clash multiple times throughout the bout, out of which one was delivered on the apron. The star has been facing backlash on social media for using AJ Styles' finisher following the match.
Recently, AJ Styles took to X/Twitter and defended Will Ospreay for using the move. He mentioned using each other's moves is nothing but a form of appreciation.
"Why do you think it bothers me that someone else is doing my move? We all do it. It's wrestling! I think if nothing else, it shows appreciation."
AJ Styles wanted Will Ospreay to join WWE
In late 2023, the former International Champion announced his arrival in AEW. Prior to that, both the major promotions, AEW and WWE, had shown interest in signing the star.
While speaking on Irish Wrestling and Entertainment, AJ Styles revealed he approached Ospreay as he wanted the latter to join the Stamford-based promotion.
"Why would I not want some of the best talent in the world to come to WWE? I mean, I think there are great guys. If he was a dou*hebag, I wouldn't him called him. I think he's a great talent and... it's only a matter of time," said Styles.
It will be interesting to see if The Phenomenal One uses any of Ospreay's moves during his matches.
