Backstage incident with CM Punk helped Jack Perry in an unexpected way, AEW star claims
Jack Perry has become one of the most popular stars in Tony Khan's promotion. AEW star Darby Allin claimed that his popularity is a result of his backstage incident with CM Punk.
Last year at All In, Jungle Boy got involved in a backstage brawl with CM Punk. Following the incident, Tony Khan fired The Second City Saint while suspending Perry. The latter was brought back to action in April 2024.
Darby Allin recently had an interview with Ringside Collectibles. During the conversation, he stated that Perry's altercation with The Best in the World at 2023 All In helped him to tune into his heel personality, which thereby helped to grow his popularity in the wrestling world.
“No, it’s really interesting because I felt like last year, Jack Perry was going to All In as a heel, but I really didn’t feel like he like found his niche. Unfortunately, he did what he did, but weirdly enough, I feel like that actually made him find his niche. They say wrestling’s the best when you’re yourself turned up to 100, and he’s just a douchebag, so it’s kind of cool that he can just be his normal self,” Allin said. (H/T Wrestletalk)
Darby Allin says Jack Perry is getting rewarded for bad behavior
Following Jack Perry's return to AEW TV, he joined The Elite. Since he joined the EVPs no one dared to question his actions. If anyone did so, they got punished for questioning him or his friends.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated last week, Darby Allin spoke about Perry being entitled. He stated since the reigning TNT Champion returned he has been acting more like himself (which is like a true heel) and is getting rewarded for his bad behavior.
Darby and Perry are scheduled to face each other at All In at Wembley in August for the AEW TNT Championship. This came after the former threatened to set the latter on fire during their AEW: Dynamite Blood and Guts match.
