"Better than Batista, better than Randy" - Jim Ross comments on recently signed AEW star
AEW's trend of signing former WWE Superstars has certainly helped the company grow by leaps and bounds. Furthermore, their current World Champion and TBS Champion are former WWE names, Bryan Danielson (fka Daniel Bryan) and Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks) respectively.
All Elite Wrestling recently signed former three-time WWE Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. He made his debut on Dynamite's fifth anniversary episode, in a backstage segment. Fans in the arena were ecstatic to see him, as the star's introduction received a thunderous reaction. Interestingly, according to AEW commentator Jim Ross, Benjamin's athletic skills were far better than popular names such as Batista and Randy Orton.
"I have always been a big fan of Shelton Benjamin. He was one of my signees. In the same class as Batista and Cena, Randy Orton... Shelton was the best athlete in the whole crew. Better than Batista. Better than Randy... If we had been smart enough, to work with him and to develop his verbal skills and give him a chance to grow in that role, he would have been better because he can do things in the ring which could not be replicated," said Ross.
