Bobby Lashley's old rival supports him after awkward AEW scrum moment: "Handled it well" (Exclusive)

Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley recently made some controversial comments during Full Gear's post-show media scrum. However, his former rival has come out to support him.

EC3 is the latest to react to Bobby Lashley's comment. The All Mighty made his AEW debut on the 30th October episode of Dynamite and attacked Swerve Strickland kickstarting their feud. The two men finally locked horns at Full Gear 2024. Lashley defeated the former AEW World Champion at the PPV.

Following the show, The All Mighty attended the post-show media a journalist asked him how he felt while wrestling a black star who had previously held the World Championships. Lashley responded by saying that it was time people ignored the term "black" when referring to titleholders. This comment went viral and got a lot of people talking.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws, Lashley's former rival EC3 said that he loved The All Mighty's answer and thought it was cool.

"I guess it's whatever way the wind's blowing that day or the perspective. I mean everyone's entitled to an opinion, don't get me wrong, and I have my own. But at the same time, I love Bobby's answer. I saw that. I thought it was really cool and I for what it matters as a peer and a colleague as a man who's battled him for over 30 minutes in professional wrestling rings."

EC3 continued to say that he had wrestled Lashley multiple times before and had the utmost respect for his former colleague. He also wondered why his comment would attract so much negativity. He also concluded by saying that the AEW star handled the situation well.

"I've been four-sided and six-sided, he has my utmost respect and admiration as an athlete, as a competitor, as a human being, as a father, and when he was a champion and so I don't know why it would receive negativity and then praise regardless of the fact that it's being said by different people who may have a perception or a belief attached to what they think they might think which they probably don't think, but at the same time, I think Bobby handled it well and if anybody can speak to it, it would say it would be him." Vince Russo also addressed Bobby Lashley's comments

Bobby Lashley's comments came as a bit of a surprise to fans and critics, especially at a time when there is a call to increase the amount of black representation in the business. Hence, The All Mighty's comments didn't sit well with a lot of people. However, the former WWE Champion also found a lot of industry veterans who supported his perspective.

Speaking on the same podcast episode, Vince Russo addressed Bobby Lashley's comments saying that a champion is a champion and it doesn't matter what nationality, race, color, or creed a person belongs to thereby also agreeing with EC3's comments.

"Yeah, bro, a champion is a champion. Period, end of story. You are putting a title, your faith, your belief in somebody that you feel is going to represent your company in a positive way. A champion is a champion, bro. It doesn't matter what nationality, race, color, creed, I mean, a champion is a champion, man. It is a very important spot to be in and I'm with EC3, I don't think it has anything to do with color. I think it has to do with who is the best man or woman for the job, period."
