Bret Hart on his absence from AEW's Owen Hart Cup: "It might ruffle WWE's feathers"
Bret Hart never got involved in the tournament despite being Owen Hart's brother. AEW started the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament in 2021 as a tribute to the legendary wrestler, Owen Hart.
The Jacksonville-based promotion held this year's tournament in June and July. In the men's division, Bryan Danielson emerged as the victor and will challenge the AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland for his title at All In at Wembley.
In the women's division, Mariah May secured the win and will thus challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women's Championship.
Bret Hart recently attended a virtual signing on Signed By Superstars. During the event, he was asked if Tony Khan had ever asked him to get involved with the Owen Hart Cup.
He responded that the AEW CEO never approached him with the idea. He added that he would've loved to be a part of it. But he also highlighted that if he'd done so, AEW's rival company, WWE, would've gotten offended:
He said, "Nope. He’s [Tony Khan] never asked me… I’d have to think about it (if he did ask). I like Tony and I’d be happy to help out but I don’t know if I’d wanna go down — I think it might ruffle WWE’s feathers, and I get all my — everything tied in through them. But, then again, it can’t hurt to ask.” [H/T ringsidenews]
