Britt Baker committed to watching both WWE and AEW; shares point-blank thoughts on recent rumors
Britt Baker is an AEW Original. The dentist-wrestler was once widely viewed as the face of the All Elite women's division, despite various rumors and speculation from backstage and on social media. Baker has just opened up on recent issues, along with interesting remarks on supporting All Elite Wrestling and WWE.
The D.M.D. has had a rough year. The former AEW Women's World Champion dealt with major health issues last year, which caused more problems that kept her on the shelf for more than nine months. She returned in late June but was suspended one month later after an alleged backstage incident with MJF and his girlfriend, Alicia Atout.
Unfortunately, these were not the first backstage conflicts involving Baker. The 2022 Owen Hart Cup winner has finally opened up on some of the rumors and criticism in a new interview with Fightful. She also revealed how she avoids some of the social media drama: by deleting the apps.
"I think what hurts me the most is when people run with rumors or concepts or ideas that are just not true, and if I sat here all day and fought off and batted down everything that I heard about myself, that wasn't true, I would spend my entire day on social media. I don't do that, I actually delete the app most of the time, unless I have something to promote," Britt Baker said. [From 07:44 to 08:09]
Baker said the false rumors are more frustrating than any criticism, adding that most genuine wrestling fans offer criticism that comes from a good place, but they may not be able to communicate those opinions properly or respectfully.
The Pittsburgh native said she hopes to write a tell-all book someday because it would be very eye-opening for a lot of people. Baker continued and revealed her mindset at this stage.
"I'm at the point in my career where I'm happy. I know what goes on, and what doesn't. Whatever you heard about me, it's true. Whatever you heard I said, it's true. I said it, I did it, I don't care, because it gets to a point where it's laughable. You can't lose sleep, you can't sit at home and cry because people say you're a bully, you're this, you're that. At the end of the day, my priority and passion is pro wrestling. I love the AEW women's division, I love AEW, I love pro wrestling. I watch both companies [WWE, AEW] religiously," Britt Baker said. Baker went on to say she's now focused on making the sport better. She admitted that they can't control social media rumors, but they can work on improving the product, building bigger stars, growing the audience, and crossing over into the mainstream.
Britt Baker set for hometown AEW return
Britt Baker is set to make her return to AEW action in front of a hometown crowd. She has been confirmed for the Dynamite Fifth Anniversary show scheduled for Wednesday at Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Doctor will face Serena Deeb on Wednesday's Dynamite. This will be the first-ever singles bout between the two. Baker and Deeb teamed up to defeat Athena and Toni Storm on Dynamite in September 2022.
Baker has not wrestled since losing to Mercedes Moné at All In on August 25. She returned from a near-ten-month hiatus in late June, and defeated Hikaru Shida in her return bout, then defeated Harley Cameron the week before All In.
