Bryan Danielson reveals WWE veteran made a special request to him moments before coming out of retirement
AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson recently recalled a WWE veteran's request to him before their match. The name in question is none other than Nigel McGuinness.
AEW presented Dynamite Grand Slam from Arther Ashe Stadium last week where Bryan Danielson faced Nigel McGuinness in a dream match. The American Dragon defeated his long-term rival by tapping him out to the LeBell Lock.
In a recent chat on the Nikki & Brie show, Bryan Danielson revealed a heartfelt gesture by Nigel McGuinness before their match. Nigel asked Bryan if he would meet his daughter before going out to compete so she could understand that they weren't actually hurting each other.
"He did something we should have done," Danielson admitted. "Nigel said, 'Hey, would you mind meeting my daughter beforehand so that she can know that we're friends and that we're not actually hurting each other out there.' As soon as he told me back, I was like, 'Oh my gosh, we should have totally done that for Birdie!'" [H/T: Fightful]
Bryan Danielson further praised Nigel McGuinness for his performance at AEW Grand Slam
Nigel McGuinness competed in his first singles match in 13 years at AEW Grand Slam last week. The veteran was forced to step away from in-ring competition due to injuries and he then chose to take a career as a commentator in professional wrestling.
In the same episode of the Nikki & Brie show, AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson noted the difficulties Nigel has faced in his career and claimed that despite competing in his first match in 13 years, the former ROH World Champion was fantastic and the match was special.
"I had another really cool thing that happened on Wednesday. I got to wrestle Nigel McGuinness. A lot of people might not know Nigel McGuinness, but we helped really make each other on the independent scene and that sort of thing. He had a lot of injuries and all that kind of stuff. Then he hasn't wrestled. He hadn't done a singles match in 13 years. He's 48 years old, and we just wrestled at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday. I mean, it was really cool and really special. For somebody who hasn't wrestled in 13 years, he did fantastic. It was so neat, and it was so cool, and it was so special." [H/T: Fightful]
It will be interesting to see if Nigel McGuinness competes in more matches for All Elite Wrestling. The veteran stated recently that he's open to wrestling more.
