Buddy Matthews addresses rumors of his potential WWE return
AEW star Buddy Matthews recently spoke about the rumors of potentially returning to WWE. He was signed to the Stamford-based promotion from 2013 to 2021.
The former WWE Superstar has been a part of AEW since 2022. Upon his arrival, Buddy Matthews became a member of The House of Black alongside Brody King, Malakai Black, and Julia Hart. The group has found success in the promotion and are former World Trios Champions. However, some rumors have been spreading on social media lately about Buddy Matthews potentially returning to the Stamford-based company after when his All Elite Wrestling contract expires.
In a recent interview with Wrestle Radio Australia, Buddy Matthews was asked about the rumors. The former WWE star revealed that the speculations don't impact his performance and called them made-up news. The 36-year-old also talked about how easy it is to use social media in current times to spread negativity.
"It doesn't impact anything. It's.. anything that is on Insta, Twitter, or what's it called? X, X? I don't even use it. It's just called negative to me. Like there is nothing positive on that. It's just where people can honestly feel better about It doesn't do anything positive in the world. This is my perception of it. So, the ideas of listening to people talk contracts and you can speculate, but when you're putting it on a forum to try and generate either a negative, because you're trying to generate a negative reaction regardless, because it's not ever put in a positive way. You're just trying to get people on your side," he said.
Buddy revealed that he doesn't read the news and nobody really cares about those rumors. He clarified that he was focused on his job which was to perform for All Elite Wrestling.
"So, it doesn't affect me because I don't even look at it. The performance doesn't affect that because i have a job that needs to be done. So, the speculation is fine, but it doesn't affect me. I guess it's a long thing. But, yeah, I need to get that thing out that what people say and how they determine it and what they want to put out, that doesn't, like, it's in one area. It's look and move past. I feel like a lot of people on Twitter think that they have enough power and they're trying to generate a reaction. But to be fair, no one's giving a sh*t," he added. Buddy Matthews is a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion
After his run in NXT, Buddy Matthews moved to the Cruiserweight division. The Best Kept Secret proved to be one of the best additions to the division as he managed to defeat Cedric Alexander for the Cruiserweight Championship at Super Show-Down in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia.
Matthews went on to hold the title for 183 days and also maintained an undefeated streak in singles competition. However, at WrestleMania 35's kick-off show, he was defeated by Tony Nese for the Cruiserweight Championship.
