Chris Jericho gives huge update on his AEW contract; lashes out at fans
Chris Jericho is one of the greatest professional wrestlers in the world. He has been with AEW since its inception in 2019 and has now provided some insight into his contract with the company.
Jericho has wrestled all over the world, and even at 53 years old, he manages to reinvent himself and remain relevant in the business. The former WWE Superstar signed a three-year extension with AEW in 2022, meaning his contract will expire in 2025.
During a recent appearance on the Busted Open Radio, the former AEW World Champion revealed that he is about to enter his biggest contract year yet. He also lashed out at the fans criticizing him for being on TV.
"I'm about ready to go into my biggest contract year ever. That's one of the things I laugh about when people are like, 'Jericho just has to be on TV.' I don't have to do anything. My boss puts me on TV because he pays me money to be there. To know that much money is at stake 25 years after the Attitude Era, it blows my mind. This is a great time for the business and fans to be in it."
The Ocho also continued to explain how live sports is the last bastion of advertising since everything is moving to streaming platforms.
"Live sports is the last bastion of advertising. With all the streaming, nobody is watching commercials anymore. The only commercials are NFL, NHL, NBA, AEW, WWE, live sports. That's why it's worth that much money. For people going, 'Oh, they're overpaying.' It's what they have left to make money. When WWE goes to Netflix, suddenly that changes the game as well. It's an interesting time for the television business, the wrestling business, and live sports and advertising," he said. [H/T: Fightful]
Teddy Long on one thing wrestlers can learn from Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is a legend in the world of professional wrestling who has always managed to keep himself involved in key storylines. Even now, he somehow manages to stay relevant by protecting himself and his character.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Teddy Long said that many wrestlers can learn to protect themselves from Jericho.
"And I've always give this to Chris Jericho. I always have to let people know, you can beat Chris Jericho one, two, three right in the middle, I mean, no screwjobs, nothing, right in the middle, and I can tell you he'll get right up from it and get his heat back and the people will forget about he ever lost. That's what you've got to learn how to do, take care, protect yourself, and Chris Jericho is one of the best. He can do that." [From 04:45 – 05:10]
Currently, Jericho is doing some amazing work as The Learning Tree in All Elite Wrestling.
