Chris Jericho seemingly confirms ex-WWE Intercontinental Champion hasn’t signed with AEW yet: “We haven’t seen him a whole lot”
AEW star Chris Jericho has seemingly confirmed the contract status of a former WWE star in the Tony Khan-led promotion. This star recently appeared in ROH to challenge The Learning Tree.
Matt Cardona has been doing very well in the indies since his WWE release. The Indy God has competed all over the country and won championships in various promotions. However, the former Intercontinental Champion has yet to compete in ROH. But this is set to change soon.
On the December 5 edition of ROH on Honorclub, Matt Cardona made a surprise appearance to answer Jericho's open challenge for a title match. He will face the reigning ROH World Champion at the upcoming Final Battle PPV on December 20.
During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Chris Jericho spoke about his upcoming match with Cardona. The 54-year-old also confirmed that The Deathmatch King is not an AEW regular, indicating that Matt has yet to sign with the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"Just the fact that we are doing this is special. The fact that it's in Hammerstein, with the vibe that is expected. I don't think anybody expected Matt Cardona to answer this challenge. He's not an AEW regular. We haven't seen him a whole lot," he said. [H/T: Fightful]
Chris Jericho confirms that ticket sales doubled after his match with Matt Cardona was announced
Final Battle is set to take place in the iconic Hammerstein Ballroom. One of the most anticipated matches of the night is the ROH World Championship bout between Chris Jericho and Matt Cardona. Both men have done well to build hype around this match. Jericho even went to the length of showing up at a GCW show and attacking Cardona. It looks like these tactics have worked.
During the same episode of Busted Open Radio, The Lionheart confirmed that ticket sales have doubled since the match was announced, adding that he's expecting a sold-out arena.
"I'm very happy with this build we've created the last three weeks. I don't think it could have gone better. I know ticket sales have pretty much doubled after this match was announced. We're going to sell out if we haven't already. It's going to special just by the fact that we're there. I'm excited about it," he said. [H/T: Fightful]
It will be interesting to see if Matt Cardona wins the ROH World Championship at Final Battle.
