Christian Cage and The Patriarchy to be stripped of the AEW World Trios Championship? Exploring why it’s likely
Christian Cage and The Patriarchy won the AEW World Trios Championship last week. Their title reign, however, might be in jeopardy.
On last week's Saturday Night Collision episode, Cage and his stable mates took on The Bang Bang Gang for the vacant AEW World Trios Championship in the main event of the show. The heel group managed to beat their opponents and become the new champions in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently released a report stating that Killswitch has sustained an injury. It was reported that he tore his bicep partially, but is expected to work through the injury.
Since Killswitch is expected to continue working with a torn bicep, this could aggravate his injury, thus potentially putting him on the shelf. This would put Cage and his team in a position where they might have to relinquish their newly won belts. The previous World Trios Champions faced the same problems, therefore, the chances of it happening seem very likely.
The Bang Bang Gang was stripped of the AEW World Trios Championship
Two weeks ago, The Bang Bang Gang had a match against Michael Allen Richard Clark, Shaun Moore, and an enhancement talent. Since Jay White was injured, the group replaced him with Juice Robinson for the match.
However, following the match, interim EVP Christopher Daniels punished the champions for using The Freebird Rule. As a punishment, Jay White, Austin Gunn, and Colten Gunn were stripped of the AEW World Trios Championship.
Daniels then announced a match for the vacant championship, and Christian Cage and The Patriarchy became the new champions last week. Since The Bang Bang Gang was forced to drop their titles after Jay White was injured, the same could happen with The Patriarchy.
Will The Patriachy's championship reign come to an end following Killswitch's injury? Only time will tell.
