CM Punk and current champion surprisingly reference AEW on WWE TV
CM Punk and a top champion got into a slightly heated discussion backstage during tonight's episode of WWE NXT. The champion also seemed to reference AEW, a past they shared. This would be Ethan Page.
Punk and Page made their debuts for the Jacksonville-based promotion in 2021, with the latter appearing as a mystery entrant in the Face of the Revolution ladder match in March and the former making his long-awaited debut appearance during Rampage: The First Dance in August that year.
Both men have crossed paths once more as the Straight Edge Superstar has been tapped to be the special guest referee for Ethan Page's NXT Championship defense against Trick Williams next week during the show's debut on the CW Network.
The All Ego Superstar did not appreciate CM Punk getting involved in his title affairs. On this week's NXT, Page claimed that he had been where Punk had been, which was a reference to them both being part of AEW before making their way to where they were now.
Ethan Page also claimed that he had worked too hard for his title and did not want any of CM Punk's drama to come his way.
Punk reassured him that he had no bias next week and that, as the referee, he'd call things as they were. It remains to be seen which of these two superstars is on top.
