CM Punk questioned AEW star backstage during feud; surprising facts revealed

WWE star CM Punk was very influential during a feud with AEW star during his time in the promotion. The star being discussed is Ricky Starks. He recently talked about how the Voice of the Voiceless was instrumental in his representation. The latter has been signed to WWE for more than a year.

The Absolute Star was one of the top stars on the Collision program during the Second City Saint's presence. The duo squared off several times in AEW. They also fought in the Owen Hart Cup finals, where Starks picked up a huge victory over the megastar. He was pushed to the moon before his momentum was completely stalled in 2024.

Despite being healthy, the star hasn't been seen on AEW TV since March 2024. Later in interviews, he stated that he is unaware of why he isn't featured on TV. Recently, Ricky talked about a backstage incident in which CM Punk chatted with him ahead of the former's promo, and he carried a bag with him.

While speaking with INSIGHTS with Chris Van Vliet, Ricky Starks claimed CM Punk questioned him about the bag he would carry to the ring. The Absolute star also talked about Punk keeping extra pyro for the star.

"Punk was very instrumental in all of that. I went out on a promo with a Louis Vuitton bag. Before the promo, they were like, ‘What’s in the bag?’ I said, ‘I don’t know.’ ‘Why do you have it?’ ‘I just bought it, and I want people to see what I got and what they don’t.’ He was very instrumental in that. The whole pyro thing, ‘Why not just have pyro go off for ten minutes?’ I said, ‘Oh, I never thought that. Let’s do it," he said. [H/T - EWrestlingNews]

Ricky Starks defends CM Punk's AEW stint

CM Punk had multiple real-life arguments and fights in the AEW locker room. He was fired from the promotion after he attacked Jack Perry at All In, leading many to believe that the veteran was hard to work with.

While speaking with WhatCulture, Ricky Starks revealed that the Voice of the Voiceless was never a problem for him.

"I have no issues with [CM] Punk, I don’t give a f**k what anybody tries to tell me, I don’t care. He has never done me wrong and you can have your opinions on him, but you shouldn’t vilify someone for thinking differently than you," he said.

It will be interesting to see if Ricky Starks returns to AEW before his contract expires in 2025.
