CM Punk might be responsible for lukewarm reaction to Hangman Page's AEW return, says WWE legend
Hangman Page made his glorious return to AEW on the latest episode of Dynamite. He faced Jeff Jarrett in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Owen Hart Cup and emerged victorious. Bubba Ray Dudley has now commented on Page's comeback.
In the semifinals of the prestigious tournament, Page will battle Jay White. The winner of the match will face Bryan Danielson in the final on the July 10, 2024, episode of Dynamite.
The live crowd's reaction to Page's return was seemingly underwhelming. On the latest episode of the Busted Open podcast, WWE legend Bubba Ray Dudley speculated about the reason behind the 'lukewarm' response. He strongly believed that since the 32-year-old's return took place in CM Punk's hometown, Chicago, the reception Page received was lackluster.
"Hangman Page comes out to a very lukewarm reaction. It was a lukewarm reaction. Listen to the people. Lukewarm reaction because of the way Hangman split months ago and I also think it has to do because of Chicago. It's Punk territory. And Punk and Hangman had their issues. So I don't think Chicago was going to give Hangman a warm welcome. Just my opinion," Dudley said.
During his AEW tenure, CM Punk and Hangman Page had major disagreements. Punk eventually left the Tony Khan-led company and made his shocking return to WWE in November 2023 at Survivor Series: WarGames.
Bubba Ray Dudley was pleased with Hangman Page and Jeff Jarrett's match on AEW Dynamite: Beach Break
On the same edition of the Busted Open podcast, Bubba Ray Dudley said Page and Jarrett's Owen Hart Cup quarterfinal match delivered on expectations. He praised both competitors for putting on an entertaining show.
"'Hangman' Adam Page vs. Jeff Jarrett [was] a good match. Old school, storytelling, psychology, good match. I would have liked to have seen Jeff go a little further but I understand why they won't allow them."
Bubba Ray Dudley is best known for being a part of The Dudley Boyz with D-Von Dudley. Together, the two have won numerous titles, including the WWE Tag Team Championship.
