CM Punk would be 'one of the largest box-office attractions of all time' if he returns to AEW, says veteran (Exclusive)

AEW star CM Punk's return is all but confirmed at this stage, but still remains a heated topic of discussion. Sporskeeda Senior Editor Bill Apter recently gave his take on Punk's rumored return and expressed how major it will be.

AEW Collision was recently announced, and for weeks the show was rumored to be the place CM Punk would return. Since the first episode will air from The United Center in Chicago, it seems like it goes without saying that Punk will be back.

During the latest episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, Bill Apter explained why he believes CM Punk's return will be massive.

"Look at entertainers. I mean, one person says a little something wrong or whatever and everybody gets mad? Nobody wants to see him again, but he’s got a new movie coming out so everybody piles in to see him. I think CM Punk, right now, would be one of the largest box-office attractions of all time if he came back at this particular period." [02:33 to 02:55]

According to Haus of Wrestling, AEW has already rehired CM Punk's longtime friend and coach, Ace Steel. This may already be another sign that The Second City Saint will return and that things might even be going better than they appear to the fans.

Bill Apter doesn't believe that CM Punk's AEW woes are a work

Many fans have speculated that The Elite and Punk drama could be a kayfabe story. Due to the mixed reporting around the matter and no official statements from the promotion, many believe this could be the case.

Earlier during the same episode, Apter explained why he believes that there were legitimate issues between CM Punk and AEW.

"I don’t think so. I think there’s a lot of anger, a lot of anger. But I think they need to find a way to bring him back. But you do have a guy like Jon Moxley who just said ‘What is this CM Punk [drama] out there? Who cares about that stuff?’ It’s like any other job! You’re getting paid to do your job, come back and stop putting everything out on [social media]." [01:50 to 02:18]

Many veterans have urged those involved in the back-and-forth issues to let their problems go and simply do what's best for business. It remains to be seen if the stars can pull this off, but with Collision underway, that could finally happen.
