Cody Rhodes' WWE SmackDown segment had a brief glimpse of major AEW star
Reigning Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes was out for revenge on AJ Styles on the latest episode of SmackDown. However, as The American Nightmare waited for The Phenomenal One in the parking lot, fans witnessed the picture of an AEW star on one of the production trucks.
The star being referenced here is WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, who is currently a part of the Jacksonville-based promotion.
It could be a simple coincidence, but with every visual of a promo being carefully crafted, it could also signal the things to come for Cody and WWE. Is Ric Flair about to make a return to WWE? Only time can tell. A fan hinted at the same on X.
"Was this on purpose? #SmackDown," the post read.
WWE has been working a bit with the production trucks in their promos. Earlier this year, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Cody Rhodes shared a memorable backstage segment where The Final Boss unleashed a brutal assault on The American Nightmare. During the segment, a production truck featuring the pictures of Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena caught the eyes of everyone.
This made fans curious about the duo's potential appearance during the Undisputed WWE Universal Title match between Rhodes and Roman Reigns at The Show of Shows. While Cena did appear during the match to help Rhodes against The Bloodline, Austin was nowhere to be seen.
Instead, it was The Deadman who shocked everyone by interfering during the match. Later, it emerged that WWE had approached Steve Austin for an appearance at WrestleMania. However, the deal never materialized, and The Phenom was roped in as Austin's replacement.
Cody Rhodes' will face AJ Styles in an 'I Quit' Match at Clash at the Castle
During the latest episode of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes called out AJ Styles for the latter's actions from last week. For those unaware, The Phenomenal One faked his retirement last week and unleashed a brutal assault on The American Nightmare.
AJ Styles made his appearance and demanded a rematch from Cody for the Undisputed WWE Title. The 38-year-old accepted Styles' demand before adding that he would force The O.C. leader to say ''I Quit!'' at Clash at the Castle. General Manager Nick Aldis gave his nod to officially convert the Cody Rhodes-AJ Styles encounter at the Scotland spectacle into an ''I Quit'' Match.
AJ Styles delivered an amazing performance against Cody Rhodes at Backlash France. However, despite his best efforts, the veteran failed to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. Will The Phenomenal One dethrone The American Nightmare a Clash at the Castle? Only time will tell!
