Current WWE champion airs frustration with booking during AEW run

A current champion in WWE seemingly expressed his frustration with his booking during his time in AEW. The star departed Tony Khan's promotion earlier this year to join the rival promotion.

The star in question is NXT Champion Ethan Page. Ethan made his AEW debut back in 2021 and had an underwhelming three-year run with the company despite having so much potential. Before that, Page had experience on the independent wrestling scene for over 15 years. He decided to leave the promotion earlier this year.

Ethan signed with the WWE and made his debut on the developmental brand, NXT, in June. Less than a month later, he managed to capture the NXT Championship and is still the reigning champion. Meanwhile, Ethan seemingly aired his frustrations about his booking in AEW.

During a recent interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Ethan Page said that he didn't get what he is currently getting in WWE during his time in Tony Khan's promotion in terms of booking:

"It was time. Yeah, it was time. And I wasn't getting what I magically got here, which was the opportunity to show what I bring to the table," Ethan said. (H/T chrisvanvliet.com)

Former AEW star on how he got the offer from WWE

Former AEW star Ethan Page also disclosed how he got the offer from the WWE before signing. He said:

"I got a phone call, a number that I didn't have on my phone. They were like, 'Hi, is this Ethan Page? This is so and so from the WWE.' Yeah, sure! [They said] 'We'd like to offer you a contract this long, this amount...' I'm just like this is not real. I just go 'Honestly, that sounds fantastic.' They hung up on me. My phone rings instantly. 'Hi, this is so and so from WWE.' And I was like, whoa, wait, that phone call I just got was real?" (H/T chrisvanvliet.com)

Only time will tell what the future has in store for the 35-year-old star in his ongoing WWE run.
