Daniel Garcia opens up on re-signing with AEW despite rumored WWE interest

In the past few months, it was rumored that Daniel Garcia might leave AEW and join WWE. At All In 2024, The Dragon Slayer made a surprise return and confirmed that he would continue his journey in the Jacksonville-based promotion. At the event, he interrupted and prevented MJF from cheating to win the match against Will Ospreay, who was defending his AEW International Championship.

Daniel Garcia recently sat down for an interview with Renee Paquette on AEW's Close Up podcast. During the interview, he opened up about why he chose to re-sign with AEW.

He said, “AEW has a lot of momentum right now. This is where the people who are the best in the world choose to be. Okada. Ospreay. Mercedes. Me. All in one year. This is where we want to be. We have choices to go everywhere, but we choose AEW because we believe in it. And think it can improve wrestling for the next... hopefully forever,” [H/T: Drainmaker on X]

Why does Daniel Garcia like AEW better than other wrestling promotions?

A few days ago, Daniel Garcia also appeared for an interview for Yahoo Sports, where he revealed one reason why he likes AEW more than other promotions. He stated that he wanted to work in the Indies, and AEW allowed him to do that, which is a major factor that drew him to Tony Khan's promotion.

''A big part of the reason why I love AEW is that we can go do other things. I can go do indies if I want. We have those relationships with NJPW and CMLL, where I can still get experience in other places. I feel like New Japan Pro-Wrestling was always my dream when I first started being a wrestler. That's something I always wanted to accomplish. I wouldn't feel full in my wrestling career until I got to have a little stint there. I feel like keeping those doors open was very important to me,” he said.
