Darby Allin firmly believes 37-year-old star is the most "underrated" name in AEW
Darby Allin is an AEW Original. As a multi-time champion, the fan-favorite talent has several key victories under his belt, and has made numerous notable moments inside the All Elite ring. Often labeled as one of the most underrated stars on the roster, Allin is now passing that moniker to another familiar face in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
The Daredevil did battle with Brody King five times before they linked up inside the ring recently again. Royal Rampage 2022 saw King choke Allin to win, then three weeks later, House of Black's brawler defeated him at Fyter Fest Dynamite, but the heated rivalry continued. The 31-year-old then choked Brody to win a Coffin Match weeks later at Quake By The Lake Dynamite. After defeating Big Bad and his stablemates in two multi-men matches that year, Darby Allin went to war with him again at Royal Rampage this July, eliminating him on the way to winning. He then defeated the 37-year-old in singles action at WrestleDream last month.
Big Bad continues to receive nothing but praise from his real-life friend in the media. Speaking to Renee Paquette and RJ City on AEW's Meal & a Match series, Allin recalled their Coffin Match and believes that was King's big coming-out party in the All Elite singles division. The 31-year-old babyface then declared his rival to be one of the most underrated names on the roster.
"The thing with Brody is, like... I feel like this was his AEW coming-out party, to show what was he was capable of as a singles act. Because I feel like... he’s in The House of Black trios team, this is to me like, 'What can Brody King do by himself?,' and I still feel like he’s so underrated in the grand scheme of AEW by far," Darby Allin said. The first Allin vs. King match took place at EVOLVE 99 in January 2018, but ended in a 10-minute draw. He then defeated Darby at AAW and SFP events that same year, while also teaming with Jimmy Jacobs to defeat the 31-year-old and Sami Callihan for AAW. Brody also won their final pre-AEW match in March 2019 for PWG.
Darby Allin rumored for AEW Full Gear match
Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy have emerged as the top All Elite Wrestling stars that are fighting back against World Champion Jon Moxley and his crew in their attempted takeover of the Jacksonville-based promotion. Allin and Cassidy have been joined by names like Daniel Garcia and Private Party.
This week's loaded Dynamite opening match saw Allin and Cassidy fight PAC and Claudio Castagnoli to a no contest due to interference from Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Marina Shafir. The exchanges between Allin and Castagnoli have led to heavy speculation on officials booking the two in a match at Full Gear as Moxley is already scheduled to defend his title against Cassidy.
Full Gear 2024 could mark the first-ever Allin vs. Castagnoli singles match. Besides Royal Rampage 2024, this week's Dynamite tag team match is the only time Darby and Claudio have shared the ring.
