Dave Meltzer shockingly calls out AEW on recurring booking decision

AEW has notably often been praised by Dave Meltzer to the point where fans online accuse the veteran of being biased. However, recently, Meltzer shared an interesting yet shocking critique of Tony Khan's promotion.

While many see AEW as the biggest competition to WWE today, Tony Khan's bookings often come under criticism. Khan has also brought in many veterans and former WWE Superstars to his roster, and now it seems that even Meltzer can't defend this move.

During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer criticized AEW's overreliance on veteran wrestlers after Rob Van Dam's recent appearance.

"Well, Philadelphia was the city to bring him to you know, that’s a good city for him [RVD] to be in. So I thought it made sense on the show. But man, it’s a lot. You know, it’s just like so many people over the age of 50 on this show, you know, and it’s like I don’t think that should be the image of the company."
"But like individually, you know, it is one of those things where I can make a really good case for every single one of them being on the show. But there’s so many of them, you know what I mean?" (H/T: Inside The Ropes).

While Rob Van Dam wrestled in All Elite Wrestling again last night, WWE Hall of Famer The Nature Boy Ric Flair made a shocking debut in the promotion and immediately allied himself with Sting.

Rob Van Dam wants to be the man to retire Sting in AEW

The Icon recently announced that his career will come to an end at Revolution 2024. With Ric Flair's appearance last night, it's almost a given that The Nature Boy will be involved somehow in the match-up, given their history together. But could another veteran be a part of it?

During an episode of his 1 Of A Kind podcast, Rob Van Dam declared that he would be open to being Sting's final opponent.

"I'll put him out. [...] I'll put him out to the pastures. Why not?" [14:56 - 15:01]

The men have yet to cross paths in AEW, but there might still be some time to involve RVD in an angle before next year. However, fans will simply have to wait and see as The Icon prepares himself for his final wrestling match.
