Difference in CM Punk’s backstage rebellion in AEW and WWE explained by wrestling veteran

Controversy has seemed to follow CM Punk throughout his career, especially during his initial stint in WWE and his brief but eventful run in AEW. Wrestling veteran Bully Ray shared some thoughts on issues The Best in the World may have experienced in his workplaces recently.

CM Punk is set to compete inside a WarGames cage alongside The OG Bloodline at Survivor Series this Saturday, a whole year after returning to the promotion at the same premium live event on the heels of his termination from AEW. The Voice of the Voiceless was let go from the Tony Khan-led promotion after multiple instances of backstage disturbance and violence.

In light of recent glowing praise of Punk's conduct in the Stamford-based company since his return, Bully Ray wondered about the difficulties that arose during the former All Elite World Champion's employment in All Elite Wrestling

"There were times in WWE where Punk, perception-wise, was the problem. There were times in AEW where perception-wise, and maybe even reality-wise, where Punk was the problem," Ray said. "But now that I see him in WWE for this past year and how well everything is going personally for him, backstage, professionally for him in the ring... what really was the problem in AEW?"

Ray interestingly added:

"One of the lessons I had to learn within the WWE about picking my battles and which hill to die on because much like Punk — I don't know if 'punk' is the right word to describe Punk. When I think of the word 'punk' I think of the word 'b****,' I think 'rebel' is more of a word; a rebellious attitude — and I understood what that was like and I had to learn how to pick my battles." Punk notably walked out of WWE in 2014 and was later fired by the company on the day of his wedding, although bridges between the two parties seem to have been rebuilt since then.

Former AEW World Champ CM Punk will team with Roman Reigns at WWE Survivor Series

Paul Heyman shocked fans when he returned on last week's episode of Smackdown to reveal the fifth man for The OG Bloodline at Survivor Series 2024. The individual was none other than CM Punk, who will join The Usos, Sami Zayn, and Roman Reigns to take on the new Bloodline and Bronson Reed.

However, speculations are already in the air regarding Heyman potentially betraying The Original Tribal Chief to reform his alliance with The Second City Saint.
