Eric Bischoff raises concern over Rey Fenix and AEW situation: “He’s in prison”
WWE veteran Eric Bischoff recently shared his opinion on Rey Fenix's complications with AEW. The latter recently posted cryptic tweets, which caused a lot of chaos on social media.
The Lucha Brothers have wrestled worldwide throughout the years. The blockbuster duo found plenty of success in AEW as well, but things went downhill for them in 2024. The brothers were rumored to leave the company earlier this year as WWE seemingly had shown interest in signing them. Both stars were slated to become free agents around December 2024. However, Tony Khan added injury time to Rey Fenix's contract.
As of now, Penta El Zero Miedo is a free agent, while Fenix is still signed until mid-2025. A few days ago on Twitter, the latter posted about going through 'inhumane' treatment and not receiving proper treatment when he was injured. He later deleted those tweets.
While speaking on 83 Weeks, Eric Bischoff stated that Rey Fenix is in a 'prison.' He also said that, based on the recent tweets, the situation could require legal action.
"He's in prison. Can't go anywhere. Every time he tries, he's gonna get his hand slapped. The fact that he had to take down his tweets tells me everything that I need to know. He's got exposure. This is gonna be a legal situation. It clearly is already, which means it's only gonna get uglier," he said.
Eric Bischoff supports Tony Khan in the Rey Fenix-AEW saga
AEW President Tony Khan has been berated on social media since he decided to add injury time to the former International Champion's contract. However, a veteran has backed up Khan's actions.
While speaking on 83 Weeks, Eric Bischoff justified Khan adding injury time to the AEW star's deal and said that he has a 'business to protect.'
"For the most part, I would agree with Tony. He's got a business to protect, and when you invest a lot of money in talent and the talent isn't able to perform because of an injury, to me, it makes sense that you would add that time," he said.
The Lucha Bros are former AEW World Tag Team and World Trios Champions, but it appears their time in Tony Khan's promotion is at an end. It will be interesting to see when Rey Fenix will become a free agent.
