Former AEW champion was unhappy during major feud, claims Konnan: "MJF ate him up"
Wrestling veteran Konnan claimed that a former AEW World Champion was not happy during his feud with MJF. The feud is considered one of the best in the promotion's history.
The former AEW Champion in question is none other than CM Punk. The Second City Saint had one of the greatest feuds of his career against MJF during his time in Tony Khan's promotion. The two had some memorable promo segments as well.
Meanwhile, WCW veteran Konnan presented a theory that Punk was unhappy during his rivalry with MJF in All Elite Wrestling. Speaking on his K100 podcast, Konnan stated the following:
"It just seemed like CM Punk wasn't happy when he was in AEW and he let MJF eat him up. He hasn't let Drew McIntyre eat him up. And I think that part of it was you know Tony [Khan] which he still... he does it now with MJF, he's got him fighting Daniel Garcia, he had him fight Hechicero."
Konnan further added that Punk didn't seem like he wanted to be in Tony Khan's promotion:
"So, I think that you know Tony was like, 'Oh you have to help the young guys you know you'll get over with them.' And I bet you Punk, who is a very smart guy, is thinking, 'Why am I fighting these guys that I don't even know who they are?' You know he just didn't seem like he wanted to be there because, bro, MJF ate him up on the mic." [1:05-1:50]
The former AEW World Champion will be in a Hell in a Cell match
Former AEW World Champion CM Punk has been feuding with Drew McIntyre since the beginning of 2024. After suffering a defeat at SummerSlam, Punk picked up a win over Drew at Bash in Berlin. This past Monday on RAW, it was announced that Punk and Drew would face each other in a Hell in a Cell match at the Bad Blood PLE.
Only time will tell who walks out of Hell in a Cell victorious after a very personal feud between Punk and McIntyre.
