Former AEW star Matt Hardy shares honest verdict on Mariah May's violent turn on Toni Storm

Over the past few months, the duo of "Timeless" Toni Storm and Mariah May were the top attractions of AEW. Furthermore, their legitimacy was elevated because the former currently holds the AEW Women's World Championship.

Unfortunately, Storm and May's partnership has come to an end. In the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, Mariah May won the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament by defeating Willow Nightingale. After the match, she violently attacked Storm, turning heel in the process. This brutal sequence is arguably one of the most memorable things that have happened in the promotion in 2024 and fans were thoroughly impressed with how it was executed.

Even wrestling legend Matt Hardy praised the two stars for their performances and said that AEW couldn't have done what they did any better.

"I thought it was great. I really did. And I compliment AEW on going there. I love the violence, I love the viciousness because it made it mean so much more in so many ways. She was so violent. She was like a killer whenever she decided to flip the script on Toni Storm. I was all about that. I have Mariah May winning the deal right from the jump and I thought it was very cool that they pulled the trigger there... I thought the way they did the angle was excellent. Kudos to AEW for doing it that way." [From 10:31 to 11:09]

ECW legend Tommy Dreamer expected Toni Storm to turn on Mariah May instead of the other way round

In a recent edition of the Busted Open Radio podcast, Tommy Dreamer revealed that he was surprised to see May turn heel instead of Storm. His argument for this statement was that, since All In will take place in England, it made more sense for the Englishwoman to enter Wembley Stadium as a face.

"Mariah is from the town where Wembley is, they said it. And then when they said that, I was like, 'So they're gonna go with the hometown favorite as the bad girl?' Which was just interesting to me." Dreamer said. [From 12:14 to 12:30]

Toni Storm will defend her AEW Women's World Championship against Mariah May at All In. It will take place at Wembley Stadium on August 25, 2024.
