Former AEW star says he's open to joining The Judgment Day in WWE
AEW has counted many former WWE Superstars among its ranks. With the company reaching its fifth year, however, some have gone back the other way after a single contract cycle. One WWE legend recently entertained the idea of a return to the Stamford-based promotion and even an alliance with The Judgment Day.
Matt Hardy departed AEW after his contract expired in April of this year. While Tony Khan has left the door open for the legendary star to return, he seems to be enjoying his time in TNA at the moment.
During the most recent edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the former AEW star was asked about potentially joining forces with The Judgment Day in WWE. Hardy entertained the idea, noting that his 'Broken' Matt character is evolving, and it might be fun to join up with Rhea Ripley's villainous faction.
"Yeah, once again, never say never. Who knows? The 'Broken' Matt Hardy character is actually kind of evolving. Some people have noticed how I kind of go in and out of the voice of ‘Broken’ Matt or the voice of the more authentic Matt Hardy, so it is changing some. It is definitely evolving. I think it is time to do this evolution. So yeah, who knows? The Judgment Day, they’ve got a cool gig going, so yeah, that’d be something that would be fun," he said [H/T: Fightful]
Matt Hardy compares partnerships between TNA, AEW, and WWE
All Elite Wrestling turned the wrestling industry on its head back in December 2020 when it established a partnership with TNA (then IMPACT Wrestling). Tony Khan would go on to ally with several other promotions, including AAA, NJPW, CMLL, among others.
Now, cross-promotional alliances seem to have become the norm in wrestling, and the Stamford-based promotion has forged its own partnership with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Matt Hardy recently compared the WWE-TNA alliance to the brief crossover between AEW and the Nashville-based promotion.
On a recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, he noted WWE seems more respectful in its handling of the arrangement with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, and the constant crossovers between NXT and TNA stars had been great and very well executed felt the veteran.
"Tony would always talk trash on TNA and this one seems like it is a little bit more mutually respectful in some ways. You have someone from TNA show up at NXT, you have someone from NXT show up at TNA. I'm just really excited where this is going to go going forward and I like the way it's being handled thus far," Hardy said.
While some fans have pointed out that AEW sent its World Champion, Kenny Omega, to TNA several times during their partnership, Tony Khan's 'paid ads' and insults toward the smaller company remain a sore spot for many. Whether TNA benefits more from its alliance with WWE remains to be seen.
