Former AEW star willing to return to WWE after nearly 4-year absence for one reason
A former AEW star recently made a tease regarding him going back to WWE after a certain superstar gave him the idea. This would be due to him wanting to go after the promotion's Tag Team titles. The star in question is none other than Matt Hardy.
The Hardy Boyz are known as a legendary tag team in the industry. Despite not finding as much success in AEW as they did in WWE, they have still pushed on and have now begun another run in TNA. A few days ago, they fell short of the TNA Tag Team titles, and to make matters worse, Jeff Hardy suffered a beatdown at the hands of The System.
Recently on X, Matt Hardy claimed that he and his brother would go after the titles once more after the latter is cleared for action. NXT Superstar Nathan Frazer replied to his post and told him that those weren't the only tag team titles he could go after.
Matt replied with a GIF of the Hardy Boyz' return at WrestleMania 33, seemingly understanding what Frazer meant.
"NOTED…" Hardy wrote.
Matt Hardy has not been seen in WWE since early 2020, so this could end up being his first appearance there in more than four years.
Matt Hardy recently talked about WWE NXT and TNA's partnership
Matt and Jeff Hardy's recent affiliation with TNA comes at a perfect time, as they are currently in a partnership with NXT. Seeing as several stars, including the likes of Joe Hendry and Jordynne Grace, have already crossed over to the other side, there is a real chance the Hardy Boyz could do so as well.
Matt talked about this possibility during a recent interview with Sportskeeda's Senior Editor Bill Apter, as he brought up the idea of them going after the NXT Tag Team titles. They had never won the titles before, so they could add this to their already impressive resume.
"In wrestling never say never, and I will say that the NXT Tag Team titles are not on our list of titles that we've won, so we are interested in that. And I think this crossover between NXT and TNA's great. It's exciting, it's unpredictable, and I think that's a positive for the business and the industry."
As this partnership has been going on for a few months now, it remains to be seen what extent of this we'll see, and whether this could boil over to the main roster. The Hardys could eventually make a surprising WWE return at some point through this path.
