Former AEW World Champion "misuses his clout a little bit," according to Jim Ross
Jim Ross recently spoke about a former AEW World Champion and claimed that the latter supposedly "misuses his clout" at times. The talent in question is none other than MJF.
Good Ol' JR is revered throughout the wrestling world for his experience and contributions to the sport. The veteran announcer, who is currently signed with AEW, frequently shares his perspective on key players of the industry. He recently made some interesting remarks regarding one of the Tony Khan-led company's top stars - Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
Speaking to co-host Conrad Thompson on the Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross shared his thoughts on MJF, praising the latter for his understanding of pro wrestling. However, the 72-year-old personality also offered some advice to The Wolf of Wrestling, suggesting that Friedman should learn to be more patient with himself and to cultivate self-awareness and relish his current pro-wrestling journey.
"He's very bright, very, very bright. And sometimes I think that he uses...misuses his clout a little bit. (...) He needs more patience with himself, and he needs to understand that it's not always about him. But it is, more often than not. And he's really good, he's very talented, so I just think that he's got to slow down sometimes, and enjoy the journey." [2:20 - 3:03]
JR further added:
"I think sometimes he's impatient, I think sometimes, he needs to take a deep breath and enjoy his journey. If he did, he'd probably have a better overall experience." [3:12 - 3:30]
MJF recently reverted to his former villainous ways by viciously attacking Daniel Garcia after the latter's unsuccessful attempt at capturing Will Ospreay's AEW International Title last week on Dynamite: Beach Break. He explained his actions on Collision this past Saturday, once again decked in his signature suit and scarf, seemingly confirming his heel turn.
AEW star MJF reminds Jim Ross of WWE legend Paul Heyman
Few wrestling personalities are able to capture their audiences through their skill at delivering promos like WWE legend Paul Heyman. The Wiseman is hailed by fans worldwide as one of the greatest of all time on a mic.
While few wrestling figures can compare to Heyman's screen-presence, charisma, and IQ for the sport, Jim Ross recently claimed that AEW star MJF reminded him of a younger version of The Special Counsel.
Speaking on a recent episode of Grilling JR, Ross drew a parallel between Friedman and Heyman, giving high praise to The Salt of the Earth by talking about the former AEW World Champion's similarities to the legendary manager.
"He [MJF] reminds me of a young Paul Heyman. They're both students of the game. And I think Max is a keeper, obviously, that's an understatement. So, we will see where it all ends up," said Ross. [From 37:30 to 37:45]
It remains to be seen what the future holds for MJF, who could find himself feuding with Will Ospreay in AEW's upcoming programming.
