Former champion shares statement after news breaks out of in-ring return after 655+ days outside of AEW

An AEW star who has been out of action for over 655+ days is gearing up to make her comeback in 2025. However, the star, Tay Melo, will not be wrestling her first match back in the Tony Khan-led company.

Melo last competed in an AEW ring on the January 11, 2023 episode of Rampage, teaming with her tag partner Anna Jay to unsuccessfully take on Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale in a Steet Fight. Although she did participate in a mixed tag bout alongside her husband Sammy Guevara two months later, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child during the Double or Nothing pay-per-view in May.

Melo gave birth to her daughter in November last year, and her hiatus has continued since then. Amidst ongoing speculations that popped up throughout 2024 regarding her in-ring comeback, it was revealed recently that Tay Melo will step back into the squared circle at Stardom New Year Dream 2025, where she will team up with Mina Shirakawa to face Thekla and ROH Women's World Champion Athena.

Shirakawa recently took to social media to voice her excitement about Melo's return to action. The former AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion responded on X/Twitter by expressing her own gratitude for the opportunity to team with the decorated Stardom talent.

"I'm extremely happy and grateful to be tagging with you [heart emoji] Let's do this [multiple heart emojis]," tweeted Melo.

Since her 2020 debut in AEW, Melo has been featured on the company's television shows Dynamite and Rampage and on the YouTube programs Dark and Dark: Elevation.

AEW star Sammy Guevara reacts to Tay Melo's upcoming comeback

Tay Melo has been involved with Sammy Guevara since 2022. The couple tied the knot in August two years ago and, as alluded to above, are currently raising their daughter, who turned a year old last month.

Guevara has never shied away from conveying his feelings and voicing his support for Melo on social media. After the latter announced her imminent pro-wrestling return, the former TNT Champion took to X/Twitter to address the topic enthusiastically, writing:

"TAY IS BACK!!! [sic] JANUARY 3RD!! IN JAPAN!!" he wrote.

It remains to be seen when Tay Melo will appear again on AEW television.
