Former champion in Tony Khan’s promotion may not return to AEW - Reports
According to a new report, a former Champion might be heading out of AEW soon. The star in question is Daniel Garcia.
A few weeks ago on Dynamite: Beach Break, Garcia had a match against Will Ospreay for the AEW International Championship, which he lost. Following the bout MJF attacked him, turning heel in the process. Garcia has been absent from TV since.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez revealed that Daniel Garcia's contract is ending soon. AEW played the MJF attack angle to write him off the TV. It was done because AEW is not sure if Gracia will re-sign with the company.
"Well, what I know is that when they did that angle they were aware that he may not be back. So the angle was done in case he doesn't come back. And if he does come back then they've got a storyline feud with MJF. But I know, he'd been thinking about it or he'd told people he'd been thinking about it."
Alvarez continued:
"Like what he was gonna do, what he should do, you know, check with both sides or whatever if your deal is coming up. So I don't think it's 100% that he's coming back, I will say that. But I don't think he has re-signed or decided to leave yet. That was one of the reasons he was taken out of the storyline or taken out in that storyline."
MJF explains why he attacked Daniel Garcia on AEW Dynamite
On the following episode of Collision, MJF explained his actions and revealed why he ambushed Daniel Garcia and turned heel. He stated that the attack was not personal but rather an outcome of the fans ignoring him.
He added that the fans turned on him at World End PPV last year in December. In his absence, his fans forgot him and swapped him as a favorite with stars like Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland, and Samoa Joe.
