Former Intercontinental Champion open to working with AEW after WWE exit
A former Intercontinental champion, who was released from WWE recently, showed interest in working for AEW. The veteran is open to working in other major wrestling promotions as well.
The former Intercontinental champion in question is Shelton Benjamin. spent the majority of his pro wrestling career in the WWE. After his departure back in 2011, Shelton returned to the Stamford-based promotion in 2017 for a second run. However, the 48-year-old veteran was released from the company yet again in September last year.
Ever since his release, Shelton has been rumored to sign with AEW. During a recent interview with The Daily Star, Benjamin stated he would love to work in Tony Khan's promotion. Furthermore, he is also open to work in TNA as well as New Japan Pro Wrestling, declaring NJPW as his favorite promotion:
"I'm always open to working with any of those companies. At this point, it's a business aspect of to me, and that's how I approach it. I'd love to work in AEW. I'd love work in IMPACT. I don't put a limit on where I'm going. I'm open to all of these places. New Japan is still my favorite company outside of WWE, and I say WWE because I have so many friends still there. I'm open to anything and everywhere."
Top AEW star doesn't want the former WWE veteran in Tony Khan's promotion
Amid the rumors of the former WWE veteran, Shelton Benjamin possibly signing with AEW began circulating, the top All Elite star, Max Caster didn't like the idea. Reacting to the reports of Shelton potentially joining Tony Khan's promotion, Caster wrote the following on the 'X' social media platform:
"We don’t want him!"
Meanwhile, Shelton Benjamin remains a free agent as of now after his WWE release last year. Only time will tell if the veteran will be seen on the Jacksonville-based promotion sooner rather than later.
