Former Intercontinental Champion teases returning to WWE after more than four years at Money in the Bank 2024
WWE is gearing up for a huge Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, and fans are expecting some surprises in Toronto. One of these could be the return of a former Intercontinental Champion who has also put in work for AEW.
Matt Cardona spent 15 years in WWE before being released in 2020 in a round of Covid-related budget cuts. The veteran went on to compete in a limited-appearance deal with All Elite Wrestling before striking out to forge his own path.
Cardona has since become the King of the independent scene and a multi-time champion across several promotions. He returned to AEW on March 30, 2024, in a one-off challenge for Adam Copeland's TNT Championship. However, he's also hinted several times that he might return to WWE.
The Indy God was at it again today on X/Twitter. When a fan speculated on the amount of interference we might see in the Money in the Bank Ladder matches this weekend, Cardona threw his own name into the hat, suggesting that he might show up to help his real-life wife, Chelsea Green, who is competing in Women's MITB Ladder match:
"Me helping Chelsea Green...," wrote Cardona.
Matt Cardona can't choose between WWE's Chelsea Green and AEW's Adam Copeland
Matt Cardona's one-off return to All Elite Wrestling was a chance for him to fulfill his greatest dream match: a singles bout with WWE Hall of Famer Edge, aka Adam Copeland.
Cardona has spoken about how much the match meant to him, and it seems that Copeland would be the 39-year-old's favorite Canadian wrestler...if not for his wife.
A fan recently asked Cardona on X/Twitter who his favorite Canadian wrestler was, and the former Zack Ryder didn't hesitate to point to Chelsea Green. However, he couldn't resist slipping Edge's name into the conversation:
"My hot wife… or Edge," he replied.
Money in the Bank 2024 takes place this Saturday, July 6, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Whether The Indy God shows up to help his wife win the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder match remains to be seen.
