Former WWE champion has created a special mask for AEW's Mercedes Mone
Mercedes Mone is having a spectacular run in AEW. The current TBS Champion will face NJPW Strong Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer in a Winner Takes All Match at the upcoming AEW pay-per-view Forbidden Door.
The former WWE Superstar recently surprised the audience by appearing at the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). To mark the occasion, Lince Dorado, a former WWE 24/7 Champion, created a special mask for the former WWE SmackDown Women's Champion and posted the images on his X (Twitter) account. Lince joined the Stamford-based company in 2016 and aligned with the Lucha House Party in 2018.
Lince Dorado had designed Mercedes' mask when she defended her IWGP Women’s Championship against Mayu Iwatani at the STARDOM All Star Grand Queendom last year.
"Mask for @MercedesVarnado #ceo #luchalit," he posted.
A Lucha mask is one of the most prestigious masks in wrestling. Once a Luchador wears the mask, it becomes part of their identity. In WWE, Rey Mysterio has routinely competed in matches with his mask on the line. The WWE Hall of Famer has been unmasked by wrestlers including Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, and Randy Orton.
Mercedes Mone has a two-word retort after her appearance on CMLL
Mercedes Mone surprised audiences with her CMLL appearance, where she got into a physical altercation with Stephanie Vaquer after the latter defended her championship against La Catalina. The CEO ended up slapping the 31-year-old.
After the altercation, the erstwhile Sasha Banks posted a photo of her with the TBS Championship in the CMLL ring. She also posted a two-word message in Spanish. Vaquer and Mone will lock horns in a Winner Takes All Match on June 30 at the UBS Arena in New York at the Forbidden Door PPV.
"Muchas Gracias [Thank You]," she posted.
It will be interesting to see how the former Sasha Banks fares at Forbidden Door 2024.
