Former WWE name who retired over 12 years ago reacts after Blackpool Combat Club member's big loss

A former WWE figure who has been retired since 2011 shared his reaction to a Blackpool Combat Club member's major loss at a recent wrestling show. The individual in question is Nigel McGuinness, who was commenting on Wheeler Yuta being dethroned for the ROH Pure Championship.

Ring of Honor presented the 2024 edition of Death Before Dishonor on July 26, 2024. The event emanated from the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and featured an ROH Pure Title bout between defending champion Wheeler Yuta and challenger Lee Moriarty of Shane Taylor Promotions.

The match was contested under Pure Championship rules and saw both competitors exhaust all their rope breaks. Moriarty exploited the stipulation to roll into a pinning position and utilized the ropes with his feet to pin Yuta and pick up the win. The victory marks the 30-year-old star's first title win in Ring of Honor.

The outcome of the match garnered a comment from Nigel McGuinness, a former WWE commentator who currently performs commentary duty on AEW Collision. The English star had held the ROH Pure Championship for a combined 350 days during his time in the promotion. Taking to X/Twitter, McGuinness congratulated Moriarty for his triumph with a five-word message.

"My title in good hands..." wrote Nigel.

Nigel McGuinness namedropped a WWE Superstar on AEW Collision

The May 30, 2024, edition of AEW Collision featured a tag team bout pitting JD Drake and Anthony Henry - the tag team known as The WorkHorsemen - against the pairing of former ROH Pure Champions Daniel Garcia and Katsuyori Shibata. At one point during the match, Nigel McGuinness, who was on commentary, spoke about Shibata's past history in pro wrestling and referenced one of his old NJPW rivals, Shinsuke Nakamura.

The King of Strong Style, alongside Shibata and Hiroshi Tanahashi, was once known as a member of the new Three Musketeers of New Japan, signifying their status back in the day as the future of the Tokyo-based promotion. Nakamura has been signed with WWE since 2016 and has enjoyed a considerable degree of success in the sports entertainment juggernaut, including runs with the WWE NXT Championship, the US Championship, the Intercontinental Championship, and the Smackdown Tag Team Championship.

Shibata is currently embroiled in a feud with Chris Jericho and his new faction, The Learning Tree, and recently returned on Dynamite to save Minoru Suzuki from a post-match beatdown at the hands of the heel stable.
