Former WWE personality makes a huge announcement amid Bryan Danielson's uncertain future

Bryan Danielson is inactive at the moment. Amid uncertainty about The American Dragon's pro wrestling future, former WWE personality Nigel McGuinness has called him out and made a huge announcement.

It is unclear whether Danielson will be able to wrestle on Dynamite: Grand Slam, given what transpired at All Out 2024. Following the AEW World Champion's win over Jack Perry at the event, his former stablemates Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli betrayed him and attacked him brutally.

The American Dragon was set to face Darby Allin on Dynamite: Grand Slam later this month, but the face-painted star will now put his AEW World Championship shot on the line against The Purveyor of Violence at the event.

When the slot to potentially face Bryan Danielson cleared up, McGuinness didn't let it slide, asking Tony Khan to book him against his long-time rival for the event. But there is no guarantee that the bout will take place.

Bryan Danielson has yet to respond to Nigel McGuinness' challenge. Moreover, he hasn't been officially cleared to compete on Dynamite: Grand Slam as of now. Hence, McGuinness has started a countdown on X/Twitter to provoke the AEW World Champion. He also claimed that The American Dragon was afraid of him.

"The Fragile Countdown begins - let Cryin Bryan know you want to see him in the ring at Grand Slam - #americancoward," he wrote.

Dave Meltzer on Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness

On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer recently said the match between Danielson and Nigel McGuinness hadn't been planned for long. Meltzer also predicted that the two veterans would have a great contest.

"From what I understand, the whole McGuinness thing was not something long planned out. You always thought they were going to do [the match] before Danielson retires. I guess New York is a place. They'll probably have a great match."

The match against the reigning AEW World Champion will be McGuinness' first singles bout since he retired in 2011. The former WWE commentator returned to the ring at All In 2024, participating in the Casino Gauntlet Match.
