Former WWE personality urges Tony Khan to step aside from major AEW faction's booking - "Vince and Triple H killed that group"
Tony Khan's booking has come under major criticism in recent months. Now, even a former WWE personality has urged the AEW CEO to step back from a major faction's booking. Hugo Savinovich is the latest to comment on Tony Khan's booking. The 65-year-old was a part of the WWE's Spanish commentary team from 1994 to 2011.
At AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, MVP made his shocking debut for the Jacksonville-based promotion and offered his managerial services to Swerve Strickland. Additionally, Shelton Benjamin also made his All Elite Wrestling debut on the fifth anniversary of Dynamite and aligned with MVP, indicating that The Hurt Business was going to revive itself in AEW as The Hurt Syndicate.
It was also recently reported that Bobby Lashley had signed with AEW. However, he has yet to make his debut. Speaking on the Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, Hugo Savinovich suggested Tony Khan shouldn't get involved creatively with The Hurt Syndicate. He also added that if booked correctly, the faction would attract people who were upset that ''Vince McMahon and Triple H killed that group!''
"I think MVP is so good with the mic that when he is put together with a [Bobby] Lashley, a Shelton Benjamin, perhaps Swerve [Strickland] there in that group. Man, if Tony [Khan] just gets out of the creative part with them. That faction is going to draw you people that [sic] were upset that Vince [and] Triple H killed that group, you know. So, to me, it's like having a second chance to do something creatively, and I hope that Tony doesn't kill that," he said. [5:18-5:48]
Original plans for Bobby Lashley's potential AEW debut reportedly revealed
After a disappointing year in WWE, Bobby Lashley left the promotion in August 2024. Since then, there have been reports that he was headed to All Elite Wrestling and even signed a contract with the promotion.
With the WrestleDream PPV around the corner, a fan asked Ibou of WrestlePurists about the possibility of the former WWE Champion debuting at the show. Ibou responded that Lashley was originally scheduled to wrestle on the show.
"Hundred percent. He [Lashley] was originally scheduled to wrestle on the show," Ibou said.
It will be interesting to see if Bobby Lashley makes his AEW debut at WrestleDream.
